Position 001456:           Chief Executive Officer

Position Description

Our client, Goodwill a not-for-profit agency located in Buffalo, New York is searching for an Chief Executive Officer. The CEO carries out the strategic plans and policies for Goodwill as established by the board of directors. The CEO will actively convene, lead, and facilitate creating and implementing strategic initiatives, develops program goals and/or program standards, creates collaborative partnerships, and aligns activities to support individuals and families in the community to achieve a better life through work and independence.

Essential Functions/Duties:

  1. Understand the philosophy of Goodwill Industries, its mission and services.
  2. Establish and maintain fiscal viability of the organization in accordance with policies approved by the Board of Trustees; enacts all policies approved by the Board of Trustees, including, but not limited to: Retail operations, Human Services, Finance, GoodWorks, Human Resources and Marketing and Development; assures organizational compliance with appropriate city, county, state, federal and public regulatory agencies.
  3. Select, orient, train, promote and terminate professional and operating staff personnel.
  4. Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees and report on activities as requested and required.
  5. Promote the organization to the community to ensure that a high level of public awareness is maintained; market all processed materials for the highest net return to the organization.
  6. Perform all duties in a timely and efficient manner.
  7. Assist with the security and safety of company employees, property and equipment; enforce safety and security policies.
  8. Keep staff and people served fully informed on organization’s activities, plans, challenges and issues as appropriate.
  9. Follow all established organization policies, procedures, safety and adhere to CARF standards.

Education and/or Experience:

A degree in business or related field.  Must have management and supervisory experience and familiar basic accounting skills.

Must have at least five years related experience in similar capacity.  Demonstrated administrative, analytical and communication skills.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents.  Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.  Ability to write speeches, articles and proposals using original or innovative techniques or style.

Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial topics to staff, referral sources, funders, board of trustees, customers and donors.
